“How is it normal?” I asked, blowing out a lung full of smoke, “How is acting like a sociopath normal?”

Well, you are not normal, Elliot said, but what you’re feeling is normal for someone like you. Everyone enjoys a challenge. But people want a challenge they can overcome. You can’t die, so you need a different kind of challenge. Because you will overcome any normal persons challenges just by outliving them. Or, perhaps, outdying them.

“I’m a sociopath…” I said.

No, Elliot said, you’re something different from all of them. You would have to be a part of their society in order for it to be pathology. It would be like saying circus goers are sociopaths...
