At first, I didn’t see anything, then suddenly something exploded out of the water. It was massive and covered in long brown hair. It landed back in the water with a huge splash.

I froze. I knew there was something but until now the reality hadn’t hit home yet. There was a creature swimming in the same pool I watched every day. I stood there, transfixed on this apparition as it frolicked in the water like a kid. It spouted water out of its mouth twenty feet in the air as it floated on its back.

My mind kicked out of frozen terror mode just enough for me to pull out my cell phone and take a picture. Unfortunately, I’d forgotten to turn the volume down. W...
