The silent breeze danced across her face and her cheeks grew rosy in the sun. It was a beautiful day; as beautiful as you could ask for, and yet, this isn’t what she asked for. This wasn’t how today was supposed to go.

She looked out over the grove of trees. They always brought her comfort. As she scanned the treeline, she stopped. Something wasn’t right. She focused her gaze on one spot. Something was out of place. And then she saw it. Something in the woods was staring back at her. Fear didn’t grip her as much as remorse and resignation.

Tonight.

As if reading her thoughts and receiving silent confirmation, the creature vanished as if it was never there.
