I chime as  
the ticking clock,
the beating heart,  
and the breath -  

I am these 
words speaking
renewal 

into existence;
the metamorphosis
from larvae to beetle  
and moth - this  
rehab of the soul.

I am effective
across spans of
lifetimes 
and generations -

from the dissolved bones
and body parts  
of buried victims of  
the Black Death, I grow

budding crops of 
city-dwellers  
in fresh green fields
and grey concrete.
I am the measure

of life -
second, minute,
hour, day, month,
year, decade;

the genius 
of Einstein,
connoisseur of relativity:...
