If I lived
next to the ocean
I would like to be
part fish, gilled
and amphibious
with webbed
hands and feet
and scales.

I would wear clothes
woven of sea-shell
and pebble, with twine
of seaweed rope.

I would have
a constitution
immune to both
the saltiness of the sea
and the jeers of those
who might come to view me
and mock my fishy ways.

I would consume fresh air
and sunshine and the
occasional salad made
from sprigs of heather
along the sandy coves

and thus, I would
be maintaining
my vegan diet.
