The Mountain's Tale - Daniel Tobias Behan
Series Info | Table of Contents

A young boy sat
with his grandfather
just before bedtime,
and asked: 'Grandpa,
can you tell me a story?'

The grandfather smiled,
and nodded to
his grandson,
and so began:

'Once upon a time,
there was a mountain.
This mountain
was unhappy
and in pain,

because silly, selfish
people were drilling
into his sides
looking for gold,
and diamonds,
and chopping down his
precious tree-children.

Hurt and angered as he was,
he would have vengeance,
because he hadn't told them
his secret:

he was a volcano,
and was about to erupt.'

'What happened next?'
asked the boy.
