was no response. The off ramp was coming up fast – it would be here in half a mile. The few cars on the road with them whisked by, honking their horns as he changed lanes abruptly without signaling. But they had no way of knowing he was trying to avoid crashing into them. He was all the way in the left lane now, and the next exit had just passed him by. He needed to get back to the right lane, and fast, if he was going to get off this highway.

“Romul! Slow this car down right now!” as she reached ahead with her fist, hitting him on the shoulder. “You’re going to kill us all!”

“I’m trying – it doesn’t work!” Romul shouted back. The green sign that said “Vermilyea Road” was just ahead. He jerked the steering wheel...
