for a moment.  “How did you know I was at the house?”

     “I know Champ and Dusty anywhere.”

     “Oh,” Adam tried to repress a smile at Dessie’s facial expression of knowing.

     “I just thought I’d tidy up here until you got back.”  She paused then reached for him.  “Hi.”

     He walked over to her, hugged her, then kissed her, holding her small hands in his.

     “Hi,” he smiled.  “I’ve got some good news.”

     “Really?”

     “Really.  I went to see your pa today.  That’s why I was out there.”
