Two recycling grubs wriggled their glistening way toward the same piece of brownish lettuce Eleanor had just tossed into their bin.

She laughed. “Calm down, little wigglies. There’s plenty for all of you.” She dumped the rest of the wilted veggies in, and dozens of the creatures squirmed out of the muck toward the feast.

“Kind of sweet, isn’t it?” she said to Sam.

He shivered. “I can’t get over them liking to eat rot and decay.”

“Oh, I suppose.” Eleanor took a long last look at the busy little creatures before shutting their recycling drawer. “I think that’s the lot. I won’t be sorry to wash this stink off me, even if the recycling grubs are cute.”
