German spice cookies, or pfeffernüsse, are some of my all-time favorite holiday treats. Easy to bake, easy to eat, and they make the house smell like Christmas! These are sold in the Christmas Markets in Germany, along with spiced wine and roasted chestnuts, and they are glorious!

Pfeffernü​​​​​​​sse means "Pepper Nuts" which refer to the white pepper that give these cookies their unique flavor, and their small, walnut-like shape. While they are available to buy in stores, I prefer to make my own.
