In elementary school when my teacher read to us she always said "[title], by [author]" in sort of that singsongy way that the best teachers do to help convey the magic of it all. I always wanted my name to be read like that: "This book is by Clark Ellis." Imagine my disappointment in growing up to learn that serious authors don't really do that. They just stick their name right on the front in big fat letters without any prepositions at all. Point is, I want to be a serious author. I also don't want to let my childhood down. So I stuck my name next to that lovely little "by" word and made it all of my social media handles. Now no matter what I write and where I stick it, I get to say in my head, "that li'l bitty piece of the world is by Clark Ellis." And that's pretty much everything you need to know about me.
