and i haven’t seen a more brilliant blue

than today and the sky and its hue

(with edges of autumn tucked in at the hem)

and breathing some faster with slightest chill

and small thrills with the murmur of breeze

in the trees and across the backs

of my hands that can never stand still

so they flutter like leaves

and tug at the sleeves

and are learning to make and not take

hands finding out how better to be

and how much better to start to unfold

(open hands are easy to hold)
