and the way they take each chance

to steal a glance

into the mirror —

uneasy with the way they see themselves

why are you uneasy with yourself?

they dart again across the room

to the shelf where the clock is ticking

and you’re clicking

your teeth against each other

in panic as the seconds run away together

(the seconds don’t much matter)
