Beginning my long road to recovery, I was lucky that I had an understanding doctor. Without that, I'm not sure I could have survived my injuries as well as I did. Meeting with him only days after the accident, at the end of my examination, he began writing out a script for me, and I stopped him.

     "It's for the pain, it'll help."
     Shaking my head, I looked back at him, "No. It won't."
