Within months of getting married to Erick, the dynamics of our relationship changed dramatically, from one of equals to him trying to be the "man of the house". This situation did not go over very well with me, and we fell into a constant push and pull of dominance over it. His Catholic upbringing combined with his mother's teachings left him with the certainty that as the man he was, of course, going to be in control of everything. And I, as a woman should, of course, be willing to put aside everything for him without a qualm for marital harmony and bliss.
