it glistens in a small glass
pot like the onyx eyes
of a snake
the cool fluid
bottomless
a few bitter
drops have spilt, beading
on the polished wooden table
over deep black
stains
evidence of some other
careless pen
they too will seep
into the wood silently
leaving their pungence to inspire
another who longs
to hear the scratch
of pen on paper
