My friend was full of excitement. 

"Listen to this," he urged me, "he has such a strange voice!"

It was the time when I first heard Bob Dylan. I was a teenager in the 1960s, and a friend invited me over to listen to a record he had just bought. We listened to Dylan's songs about the 'times they are a-changing'. It was the time of the Vietnam war, and we were moved by the words, the poetry, the sound.  

It was through Bob Dylan that we became aware of another singer who had died but had left his mark. That singer and songwriter, Woodie Guthrie, also sang of his time, of the great depression, the dust bowl. We read too of the tragedy of his life - that he had inherited Huntington's disease - a rare inherited condition that would eventually take...
