“I could not believe how difficult it was; no one tells you that
it can be so hard. Talking about it is difficult. People make all
these assumptions; that you’re not trying hard enough to get
a job, that you haven’t thought of all possible types of work,
that you aren’t applying for suitable roles. Those kinds of assumptions
are hurtful—you know you’ve applied everywhere,
you know all the possibilities for advertised opportunities, you
know that you’re applying for roles that should be suitable. It’s
just not happening, and it really is a gut-wrenching experience
that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.”
