the maxim goes
"when the student is ready
the teacher appears"
you wondered the same (in a poem)
about poet and reader
or was it reader and poem?
i don't know
all i know is poetry
means something when written
and something else when read
when heard
(and i hear these lines in your voice)
everyone involved
receives, composes, a different version
than perhaps the poet intended
including the poet
such inscrutability, at home in verse
and so the maxim holds
when we are, poets and readers and listeners
ready to glimpse inside ourselves
the poem appears
and stubbornly, unapologetically
writes itself
