what do you do with memories
when the one remembering
doesn't need them any more
or doesn't remember
old pictures and bits of flotsam
yellowing and collecting dust
in some forgotten corner of some
forgotten mind

if you burn them
what happens to the ashes
do they float like pollen
or spores
germinating and growing into new memories
or into the same ones
in a new place and time
what happens to memories
when they've been forgotten
