After departing from the monastery at Snagov, the royal dragoons travelled northwest towards Turnu Rosa, skirting the base of the Carpathian Mountains as they made their way.  Unaware that hidden forces were mounting against them, the Turks had become brazen, and the fires from their encampment south of Tirgoviste could be seen from miles away.

The strategy was simple – strike swiftly in the night while the enemy slept.  The Turkish tents were surprisingly sturdy and warm, domed structures with wooden frames that were then wrapped with hanging rugs.  This made the tents susceptible to fire, and Dryll planned on exploiting that weakness.
