Sofie had been staying up late, working on a project for work, hoping it would land her a promotion.

1:00 a.m., 2:00 a.m., another pot of coffee. Her cat walked across the paper, making cat prints across the blue prints.

Her cell phone rings.

“Who would be calling at this hour?” She says to Lola, who looks up at Sophie, then stretches out, scattering fur across the paper.

She looks at the number calling on her phone and doesn’t recognize it.

“Hello?”

“You’ve got the plans?”

“How do you know my number and who are you?”

“It doesn’t matter. I want to make a deal with you.”
