on the field, were narrowed and her hand hovered near the weapon on her hip. I glance back at the field taking a closer look. The stalks swayed in the breeze, but the only thing that felt off was the electrical charge in the air.

"We should take the road," Maia says flatly.

"We?" My brows raise, turning to face her once more. "There is no we, Maia. Just me going to find my friend." I pulled up the game map and studied my location, a hazy purple field, and a road that stretched for miles in the wrong direction before it wrapped back around toward my destination. I swiped it away, eyes boring into her. "Looks like this is a straight shot, and I don't have time for detours right now. . . or trolls. Thanks for walking me out of town, now...
