Yalding Towers looked considerably more lived in than it had when the children had visited there in The Enchanted Castle. Windows on every level were wide open, as if someone were giving the place a good airing out. Vera spied a maid at one of the upper windows.

"Hullo, there!" she called.

"Hullo, child! What on earth are you doing here?" the maid replied.

"We--" Vera hesitated, not sure how to explain how her sister was invisible to someone who might not realize what a magical place this was. "That is, I came here on the train. Only I'm not certain I got off at the right stop. What is this place?"
