Clay had taken on a major business acquisition to keep his mind off of his problems.  The endeavor also gave Vanessa several weeks to get a handle on her anger before he flew back to Pleasant Valley.  He was hoping she would let him pay a visit to his sons.  She had been ignoring his phone calls.  He tried his key, and it didn’t work.  His fist pounded on the door with frustration.  She didn’t answer.  He knew she was home.  Her SUV was in the garage.  He took a seat on the front porch.  She would have to go out sometime.

Vanessa could see him sitting in the rocker, swaying back and forth, every time she passed near the window.  She let him remain outside for almost an hour before finally opening the door.  “Get in here before the neighbors...
