When Julian took a nap early in the afternoon, Kate confessed to being tired and laid down too.  Clay seized the opportunity to phone his brother.  Nathan answered rudely, “And what do I owe the honor of your call, brother dear?”

“Cut it out, Nate.  I’m in L.A., and we’ve got a real problem with my wife.”

He was caught off guard with his brother’s assertion.  “What the hell are you doing with Kate?”

“She called and begged me to come for a visit.  I almost refused, but I could hear the urgency in her voice.  I’m glad I’m here.”

Nathan was having a hard time believing Clay.  “I talked to her last night, and she said everything was fine.”

“Did she even mention me?”
