Kate sprang to her feet with a jolt back to reality.  She motioned for Nathan to get up from the floor too.  When she opened the door, Clay was standing in the hallway.

“Where have you been, darling?”  His eyes darted quickly to where his brother was leaning against the bed.  “Well, what do we have here?”

“It’s nothing, Clay.  I mentioned to Nathan how much I missed the beach.  He was trying to take my mind off of how miserable I am being cooped up inside the mansion all the time.”

Clay shot a malevolent glare at his brother, and Nathan smiled smugly at him.  “I didn’t realize you were miserable.  You should have told me.”

“I hate being indoors.  I always have.  Back in Pleasant V...
