Nathan’s transfer took several weeks to complete. He assumed Clay would already have Kate entangled in a web of romantic lies. She proved him wrong and easily kept her word, since his brother was in another city.

“I have no plans of starting a new relationship, serious or otherwise, until after the baby is born. Even if Clay declares his eternal devotion for me, I’ll still have to ascertain if he can love my baby.”

“You mean our baby.”

She scoffed when he corrected her. “Julian is going to be my whole world, just as I used to be with my mother and father. My parents set a good example to follow.”
