Kate sat in the driver’s seat for a few minutes with her hands gripping the steering wheel tightly. A knock on the passenger side window made her nearly jump out of her skin. She glanced over to see Howard standing next to her vehicle.
“Please go away.” Her voice was weak.
“Katherine, open the damn door.”
His authoritative voice commanded his order forcefully and compelled her to press the button that unlocked the door. He slid into the seat next to her, but she started to object to his present instantly. “We really don’t have anything to talk about.”
“You’re not going to do something foolish, are you?”
“You mean like when Deirdre tried to kill herself, because I showed up at your mother’s...
