Kate stood outside of the Julian and Shane’s room and listened to joyous laughter coming from inside.  She was about to end up being the real-life villain when she put a halt to their childish play and made them take part in a serious discussion about relationships and emotions.  What she really wanted to do was head inside join in on their fun.

“Hey, boys, can I borrow your dad and Uncle Nate for a few minutes?”

Julian answered for them.  “Listen here, little lady.  We need the sheriff back pronto.”

“I won’t be gone long.”  He joined her in the hallway.  “What’s up?”

“I need to speak to you alone in my room.”

“Exactly what I wanted to hear.”

She ignored his comment...
