Kate wanted to be excited, but was too exhausted to call Leo.  She placed the items on her nightstand and folded the banner, which was laid in the floor.  Her bed seemed to call her name.  As soon as her head hit the pillow, she was dead to the world.

Leo’s voice disturbed her slumber and the light coming through the window indicated morning.  “Wake up, sleeping beauty.”

She pulled her covers over her head in resistance.  “Come back in half an hour.”

“It’s after eight.  Don’t you want to see your birthday present?  I’m a day late, but I think you’ll be happy.  I let you sleep while I borrowed your key.”
