The following weekend, Kate was able to come up with a diversion to take her mind off of Nathan’s betrayal.  Meredith had called her complaining that her son never seemed to have the time to bring the grandchildren for a visit.  She volunteered to make the drive herself and commandeered Aiden to go with her.  They never got to celebrate his birthday properly due to the unfortunate circumstances at the time, and a night out on the town was just what the both of them needed.  Howard was always begging for more time with his daughter.
