question was: why hadn’t they gotten married, then maybe she would have lived happily ever after and not had the mental problems that plagued her her whole life?  I decided to keep this thing to myself---for now.

     Once Aunt Janie and Daddy finished making their rough list of all that was in the storage unit, Janie drove us back to her house.  Her and Daddy sat at the kitchen table and made another list with what they’d each keep and what they’d sell in an estate sale.  They asked me if I wanted anything to remember her by.  I kept quiet about the notebooks and neither one said anything about the plastic bag I carried at my side.  I told them I’d think about it, and excused myself to go to my guest room and rest.
