Amy and I walked into the Starbucks and found a table in a corner.  When the barista came around, I ordered a caramel macchiato and Amy ordered a vanilla latte.

     “Daniel was a hero, you know.  Got a commendation from the fire department and city of New York, posthumously, like a lot of firefighters did from that day.  Dani’s always known what her daddy did and how he died.  We have his pictures on the fireplace mantle, along with his commendation medal.  Since they didn’t find his hat, they gave me another one with his number on it and that sits on our mantle.  They also gave me a folded up U.S. flag and it’s up on the mantle, too.”

     “Kind of like a dad shrine,” I smiled....
