Now, I knew why she hated Christians.  Why she wouldn’t want anything to do with God, Jesus, church, the whole enchilada.  Many Jews, I had read somewhere, felt God had abandoned them during the Holocaust, that if He really did exist, He would have saved them from the horrific violence they had to endure.  But, He didn’t, and that had shaken their faith forever.  More than just faith had been blown apart in Clara.  The core of her being had been ripped away and fried up in that crematorium.  These SS men went home to their families every night for dinner with their families.  They also went to whatever church on Sunday.  Did they ever confess their sins?  Of course not, they were told their work was their loyalty to their cause.  Christ...
