I went with T-- today to help him pick out a new engagement ring. A-- decided she didn’t like hers anymore.

     “So,” he said, “is this something you’ve been thinking about?”

     “Helping you pick out a ring?” I said. “No.”

     “Very funny. Have you thought about getting married?”

     I told him “no,” but I didn’t mean it. The truth is, I have thought about marrying H--. I’m not sure she’s ready for it yet, and I’m a little worried about her drinking, but that might have something to do with her unemployed ex-husband living in her house.
