T-- laughed at me when I told him how I botched the breakup. He’s a good friend.

     “I’m still not sure what happened,” I said.

     “How did you finally get out of the house?” he asked. “Did you say you would call her later?”

     “Something like that,” I told him. “I said all kinds of crazy things.”

     “Did you call her?”

     “Goodness gracious, no.”

     “I’m sorry,” he said. “Did you just say goodness gracious?”

     “I did,” I told him. “It’s slipping out lately when I get overwhelmed.”
