On Halloween, I wanted to turn off all the lights in my house and escape to the basement for a Netflix binge. I haven’t seen a second of House of Cards and people look at me funny when I say that, so I thought I’d start there.

     My sister, though, called in a panic and begged me to hand out goodies at her house while she took AJ trick or treating. The mom who was supposed to take him fell off a stationary bike and broke her toe. I suggested that maybe the mom with the broken toe could give out the candy while my sister took the kids around the neighborhood, but my sister didn’t think that was a good idea at all.

     When I arrived, she handed me a giant mixing bowl full of organic fruit snacks. My face started the conversation....
