“Well, it turns out that he wasn’t such a bad guy after all,” Karam replied with a broad smile as he shambled down the stairs, showing off the results of his expensive dental work.

“Are you really going to this meeting dressed like that?” Kate sighed, looking in disgust at Karam’s faded t-shirt and ripped baggy pants.

“Why?” Karam asked in genuine puzzlement.

“You’re incorrigible,” chided Kate. “With the money you now have in the bank you could at least buy a decent pair of trousers.”

“Or get a haircut,” added Ashanti, frowning at Karam’s unruly mop of black curls.
