Foster nodded to Wilkes, who left and came back a few minutes later with a plastic bottle of ice-cold water.

She took a long drink and continued. “He had a conference call with the Joint Chiefs and NATO commanders. He wanted NATO disbanded. When he was told it wasn’t going to happen, he threatened to fire all of them. Then it got real bad, real fast.  You could hear him yelling all over the West Wing. He was livid.  He called in staff, yelled at them, called them all a bunch of incompetent idiots, and fired all of them. The Speaker of the House came in and tried to reason with him, but it didn’t work. Things really started escalating after that.  Then he ordered his security detail to get the fuck out.”

“Where were you at this time?” Wilkes asked....
