I felt doubt, too. Could not shake that feeling.
The President smiled when he saw me, and it was just like old times.
“Sonny!” he said. “Come with me! I’ve got something to show you!”
He led me into the elevator, one of the first new functions added to the building. The elevator that only went one way.
Down.
Into the laboratory.
We left the elevator and walked into it. The place where we kept the prisoners that we could not let escape. The people wrongly accused of being terrorists who we had driven mad through water-boarding. Not to mention some of the people who had foolishly tried to sue the President.
As well, of course, the ones we’d messed around with genetically.
