Callie shook her head as she yanked her hand free. For a moment, Tristan thought he’d gotten through to her. Callie dropped her eyes and took a shaky breath. But then rage at the disease destroying her sister burned away any hope of logic or reason. She stood and paced across the room, heels clacking angrily against the hardwood floor.
“Stop lying to me,” Callie insisted as she turned back to Tristan. Anger made her voice rise. “I know you can help her. Why won’t you help her?”
He sighed heavily. Grief was making his normally down-to-earth girlfriend irrational. If Callie would just stop to think about what she was asking of him…
