Maribel tossed her keys into the fruit bowl her mother gave her as a housewarming present the first time she moved out; they rattled and clanged as they spun to the bottom.  She dropped her bag beside the bed and threw herself onto the squeaky mattress, then closed her eyes dreading a nightmare-filled sleep.  The last three or four days were a blur, and in a few more would seem like nothing more than a bad dream.  She hoped so; she didn’t want to spend another minute thinking about the last two days.
