The lead truck bounced on the rough road, but the two men in back were barely jostled. They sat with their backs to the cab, eyes lowered and hooded. They had laid the body wrapped in the tarp with great care into the bed, then climbed in with a somber silence. Everyone, it seemed, was trapped inside their own head during the drive out of the mountains; none more than Jack.
