Sohrab leaned back against the side of the truck, cherry lollipop is his mouth, and scanned the highway beyond the expanse of broken concrete.  Grasses and moss had taken hold in the abandoned parking lot, breaking the surface into ever-smaller pieces in a process as old as life itself.  A hundred years from now, there would be little left; not even the empty husk of the K-Mart behind him would remain.  Time was a ruthless bitch, and no one survived its ravages for long.
