Thirteen saw the look on Amber’s face—a frightened rabbit ready to bolt—and pitied her. She was never prepared for the horrors she has endured. He considered trying with another of the inmates but dismissed it at once; there was movement all around the facility, and many of the minds inside moved in his direction. The only clear pathway was the door their attackers came through, and no time to consider other options.
“We must go,” he said. “Now.”
