“I see,” Titus said. He turned to Tess, “It’s like a magical battery. It represents whatever was sacrificed, only in a more convenient form. Surprised it agreed to that,” Titus said, looking back at the colonel.
“It was either that or be held prisoner and dissected,” Tess said, looking at her feet.
Titus nodded, “I think I would have taken the former, too.”
