The lightly drawn circles lit on either side of the hall, sending a burst of power, like an electrical wall, across the space between them, right as the creature passed through.

Behind it, the first circle glowed, igniting Major Richard’s weapon like it was made of wood. It disintegrated in the supernatural blaze, slowly drifting upwards.
