Nick let out a cry of terror as he fell backwards onto the ground as the creature slammed into the second safety barrier he had prepared. A sound like a thunderclap filled the room.

The creature reared up on its hind legs, slamming its head into the barrier over and over again. The rhythm of the creature’s attack was accentuated by Nick’s screams.

The young summoner had built the barrier wall well. It held up, but Nick was tired from the summoning. He had over-exerted his power in too many places. A practiced caster would have recognized this, but Nick was inexperienced and hadn’t thought that far ahead.

Cracks appeared in the air. They spread in a lattice design around the barrier. The creature leaned back and collided with the barrier one more time.
