“I…I thought it was Jake. I didn’t know those symbols—”
After a long pause, he said, “I can fix this.” Titus was more speaking to himself than to the agents. “I’m just missing something, I’m sure.”
“Fix it?” Gardean asked, shocked at his statement. “One of my officers died and two innocent people lost their lives, and we still know nothing!” she screamed.
Titus struggled to breathe. He didn’t care about the lives that had been lost, most human lives were insignificant, but regret at his ignorance tore at him, darkening to anger. But there was nobody to direct it at besides himself.
